Modified Soybean Stops Hair Loss in Chemotherapy Patients

Given the number of people suffering from hair loss, scientists are persistent with tying loose ends in the formulation of a hair loss cure despite the many hair loss treatments commercially available nowadays. Hair loss sufferers are patiently waiting.

In Japan, a group of researchers discovered and developed a possible cure to hair loss, especially that which is caused by chemotherapy: modified soybean.

Soybean is a good source of nutrients such as iron, calcium, phosphorus, and dietary fibres. It can also reduce LDL cholesterol, prevent cancer, and lessen the risk of coronary artery disease. Aside from that, it can reduce dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the main cause of hair loss in majority of cases.

The team developed a soybean infused with a substance that promotes hair growth and prevents hair loss caused by chemotherapy. Through genetic engineering technology, the researchers integrated the soybean with an anti-hypertensive substance derived from egg whites.

Does Hair Regrowth Slow Down as We Age

Do you know what Meryl Streep and Glenn Close have in common? Aside from the fact that they are set to dethrone Michelle Williams after receiving Academy Award nominations for best actress this year, they have apparently thinner and shorter hair. This would make us marvel: Why do older women have thinner and shorter hair indeed? Some say that a shorter hair, whether it flatters or not, makes one younger-looking. There is another theory, however. It could be because the hair grows very slowly at this point in life. But does the hair actually grow slower as we age?

Hair regrowth slows down as we age. In fact, the hair grows fastest from age 15 to 30. Because the scalp hair follicles lessen, hair grows slower while the body ages altogether. This can even lead to eventual hair loss, mostly in men. But besides ageing, there can be other major factors that come into play such as androgenic activity and genetics.

In the normal hair growth cycle, the growth phase lasts for about two to six years. At another point in the cycle, the growth phase is followed by the transition or catagen phase wherein the hair is getting ready to detach from its roots. After this stage, the hair undergoes the telogen or resting phase wherein the hair finally falls out as a new growing hair replaces it in the follicle. The catagen phase lasts for only about 2–3 weeks while the telogen phase, 2–3 months.

Hair Washing Basics in Achieving Better Hair Regrowth

If only you could be one of the children of an executive in Harvey Norman, then you would probably drown yourself with a variety or hair care products and salon services for better hair regrowth. Also, it wouldn’t be such as disaster to know that after the money, time, and effort spent on these, there is only little to no improvement in your hair. Of course, if you can’t maintain the condition of your hair by yourself, you will not see visible improvements at all.

There is more to using hair care products or availing of salon services to get a manageable and healthy mane. Designing a hair care regimen that taps all the aspects affecting the hair and its hair growth is the key. The most basic thing you should learn about taking care of your hair is the proper way to wash it.

Washing your hair daily with a gentle shampoo is not actually necessary although it is generally considered safe to. But an oily hair will most probably require more washing than a dry hair does. Dry hair will need more moisture and thus, using shampoo every day can make it worse than it already is. In case of hair loss, you will need to find hair growth shampoos and such other hair loss products. In case of a dandruff problem, use a dandruff shampoo that contains zinc pyrithione.

To properly shampoo, make sure the hair is wet with warm water. Lather a small amount from the scalp throughout the length of your hair reaching the tips. Protein shampoos do not really penetrate the hair fibres but they can coat them temporarily to make it appear fuller, lustrous, and thicker.

On Hair Loss Matters: How Important Is Hair to a Man

A deliberate display of vanity is not the province of men. However, when it comes to topics like hair loss, they also shake. That is because hair loss is not a simple cosmetic problem that only women have the permission to lament about. It is psychologically damaging.

Although hair loss is normally a part of the ageing process, it is something that men also struggle to accept. Think Vin Diesel or Jason Statham. Both of these hunks have always maintained a small amount to nothing of their hair to avoid the ugly reality of hair loss.

Balding men are more prone to becoming the butt of jokes. They may appear to take the humor as it is, but it can begin to slowly take effect on them, to the extent that they become fixated with their condition.

A 1992 study from Old Dominion University in Virginia revealed that 84% of their respondents became preoccupied with their hair loss. They would refer to the feeling as ‘self-conscious’, ‘helpless’ and ‘envious of other men’. Who could blame them in a stereotypical society like ours? As a matter of fact, The British Journal of Psychology noted that balding men are often viewed as ‘older, weaker, less desirable, and are more likely to be denied for promotions or raises over their peers’.
